A long-established weight-loss tracker with its own photo feature, against an app where the photo is the whole point.
Lose It! – Calorie Counter
4.8 from 773,758 ratings · Free
One of the longest-running calorie trackers on the App Store, built specifically around weight loss rather than general nutrition. Large database, barcode scanning, a Snap It photo-logging feature of its own, and a well-developed goal and challenge system.

A camera-first tracker. Point at the plate for an AI estimate you confirm in two taps, or scan a barcode or nutrition label to get exact published figures instead. Built around the idea that a photo estimate is an estimate, with cuisine coverage beyond American food databases. New, and small.

Which one to pick
Choose Lose It! – Calorie Counter if
you want a complete weight-loss programme rather than a logging tool: goal pacing, challenges, a community, and a decade of refinement around the psychology of sticking with it. Its photo feature also means you do not have to give up snapping to get all that.
Choose KalTrack if
you want the photo path to be the fast default rather than a premium extra, and you would rather correct an estimate than search a database.
The verdict
Lose It! is the closest thing on this list to a direct overlap, because it already does photo logging. So the comparison is not photo versus search — it is how central the photo is.
In Lose It!, Snap It is a feature alongside the database, and it has generally lived on the paid tier. In KalTrack the camera is the primary interface: the confirmation chips, the honest range, the free unlimited barcode and label scanning all exist to make that one path fast and correctable. If photo logging is how you want to work, an app built entirely around it will fit better than one where it is an option.
Against that, Lose It! is a far more complete weight-loss product. Goal pacing, challenges, the social layer, and years of work on the behavioural side of not quitting in week three. KalTrack does not have any of that, and if the reason your last attempt failed was motivation rather than friction, Lose It! addresses your actual problem and we do not.
It is also on Android and the web, and we are not.
Method: figures come from each app's public App Store listing on the day this page was built, and from each app's own published pricing. Features were checked against the apps' own descriptions. We make KalTrack, so treat this as our account of the difference, not a review.
